What is Camellia Sinensis?

Green tea is an infusion obtained from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Unlike black tea, green tea does not go through a complete fermentation process, which helps preserve its natural compounds and beneficial health properties.

Green tea is rich in polyphenols and catechins, which are powerful antioxidants. These help protect the skin against free radicals, which can cause oxidative stress and contribute to premature aging. Using skin products that contain green tea helps fight the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Plus, it helps soothe irritated skin and reduce inflammation. This makes it an ideal ingredient for products aimed at skin that is sensitive, prone to redness, or with inflammatory conditions such as acne or rosacea.

Some studies suggest that the catechins in green tea protect the skin from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. These catechins help neutralize free radicals generated by sun exposure and reduce the damaging effects of UV rays, such as redness and inflammation. It is important to note that green tea should not be used as a substitute for sunscreen, but as a supplement to help reinforce sun protection. It can also hydrate the skin and help balance sebum production. This is beneficial for people with oily or acne-prone skin, as it keeps the skin hydrated without clogging the pores.

Benefits:

Antioxidant: The polyphenols in Camellia Sinensis (green tea) fight free radicals, supporting skin health and reducing signs of aging.

Energizing: It contains caffeine, which can invigorate the skin and promote a more vibrant complexion.

UV Protection: Green tea's compounds offer some level of protection against UV damage, although it's not a substitute for sunscreen.

Moisturizing: Green tea extract helps maintain skin hydration, contributing to a soft and supple texture.
