What is sodium bicarbonate?

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is a white, crystalline powder with alkaline properties. It has a wide range of uses, from cooking to cleaning, and is also used in skincare for its exfoliating and neutralizing properties.

Benefits:

Exfoliation: Sodium bicarbonate is often used as a gentle exfoliant. Its fine particles help remove dead skin cells, leaving skin smoother and brighter. It's often found in DIY scrubs and exfoliating masks.

Acne Treatment: Due to its mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, sodium bicarbonate can help reduce acne by neutralizing bacteria and soothing inflamed skin. However, it should be used sparingly to avoid disrupting the skin's natural pH balance.

Odor Neutralization: Sodium bicarbonate is effective at neutralizing odors, making it a common ingredient in deodorants and foot powders. It helps absorb sweat and reduce body odor by neutralizing the acids that cause odor.

pH balancing: Sodium bicarbonate can help neutralize acidic substances on the skin, providing temporary relief from conditions such as sunburn, rashes, and insect bites.
