What is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate?

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that combines the latter ingredient with a phosphate and a salt. SAP is more stable than pure ascorbic acid, which is why it's used in many skin care products. It provides similar benefits to pure vitamin C, but with better stability and less irritation.

Benefits:

Antioxidant: Protects skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors such as pollution and UV exposure by reducing oxidative stress on the skin.

Brightens Skin: Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate helps lighten the complexion by inhibiting melanin production, which can help fade dark spots, hyperpigmentation and acne scars, resulting in a more even skin tone.

Collagen production: Like vitamin C, this ingredient promotes collagen synthesis, improving skin firmness and elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Acne Treatment: SAP has been shown to have antibacterial properties, making it effective in treating acne and preventing future breakouts by controlling sebum production and reducing inflammation.

Gentle on Skin: It's less acidic and more stable than pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid), making it gentler on skin, which is especially important for sensitive skin types.

Moisturizes: SAP can also contribute to overall skin hydration, helping to maintain moisture levels for plumper, more hydrated skin.
