What is Propylene Glycol?

Propylene glycol is a synthetic compound produced by adding water to propylene oxide. It is a colorless, odorless liquid commonly used in skincare and cosmetic products as a humectant, solvent, and preservative. Propylene glycol is derived from petroleum, although some formulations are also produced from plant-based sources like corn.

Benefits:

Hydration: As a humectant, it draws water to the skin, helping to maintain moisture balance.

Improved Product Texture: Its solvent properties enhance the texture and feel of creams, serums, and lotions.

Versatility: It can be used in a wide range of formulations, from lightweight serums to rich creams.

Preservative: It has mild antimicrobial properties, helping to prolong the shelf life of products by preventing microbial growth.

Solvent: It improves the texture and spreadability of skincare formulations by dissolving active ingredients and ensuring even distribution.
