What is mandelic acid?

Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds. It is known for its gentle exfoliating properties and is often used in skincare products to improve skin texture, tone, and clarity. Unlike other AHAs like glycolic or lactic acid, mandelic acid has a larger molecular structure, which allows it to penetrate the skin more slowly and reduces the likelihood of irritation, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Benefits:

Exfoliation: Mandelic acid gently exfoliates the skin by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells, helping to reveal smoother and brighter skin underneath. It’s effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and rough texture.

Brightening: This acid helps to fade hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and uneven skin tone, making it a good choice for those dealing with melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Acne Treatment: Mandelic acid has antibacterial properties that can help reduce acne by unclogging pores and preventing the buildup of bacteria that leads to breakouts. It’s particularly effective for those with inflammatory acne.

Anti-Aging: By stimulating collagen production, mandelic acid helps to improve skin elasticity and firmness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

Improves Skin Texture: Regular use of mandelic acid can help smooth out rough patches of skin, leaving the complexion more even and refined.

Hydration: While exfoliating, mandelic acid also helps to retain moisture in the skin, preventing dryness often associated with other AHAs.
