What is Calendula?

Calendula, also known as pot marigold, is a flowering plant from the daisy family Asteraceae. It is native to Mediterranean countries but is now widely cultivated around the world. The bright yellow and orange flowers are commonly used in herbal medicine and skincare products.

Calendula has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. It is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean region and has a long history of use in Europe and Asia for its healing properties.

Benefits for Skin:

Anti-inflammatory: Calendula has potent anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and calm irritated or inflamed skin. It is beneficial for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and rosacea.

Wound Healing: Calendula promotes wound healing and skin repair due to its antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It helps accelerate the healing process of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.

Hydration: Calendula is rich in polysaccharides, which help retain moisture in the skin, making it an excellent ingredient for hydrating and moisturizing dry or sensitive skin.

Antioxidant: The plant contains flavonoids and carotenoids, which are powerful antioxidants that protect the skin from free radical damage and environmental stressors. This helps to reduce signs of aging and maintain healthy skin.

Antibacterial: Calendula has antibacterial properties that can help prevent and treat acne by reducing the bacteria on the skin that causes breakouts.
